The capital murder of a child under 15 years old will carry a life sentence without parole in Texas.

"Lauren's Law" honors a 13-year-old girl killed while walking home from school. Lauren Landavazo's killer is eligible for parole after 30 years in prison. Even though it doesn't apply to their case, Lauren's parents want stricter justice for other families.

"We're just so proud of the beautiful, loving and giving person that our daughter was and the way she was always trying to help other. And just so blessed that we have that kind of legacy to carry on," Vern Landavazo, Lauren's father, said.

Lauren's Law will go into effect on Sep. 1, on day before the third anniversary of Lauren's death.
