Lubbock Police are asking the community's help in supporting an officer with kidney cancer.

Officer Felipe Flores had emergency surgery to remove the tumor and is doing well, but will be out of work for a while. After his recovery he will need further treatment and rehab.

To help support him and his family, some of his fellow officers will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, May 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

"We gotta take care of each other There's a lot of stuff going on in the world today that's negative towards us. Lubbock's always been a huge supporter of its law enforcement, so we just want to come out and show that," Officer Corey Williams said.

There will be food and music, including a show by the motorcycle squad.

"We would do the same for anybody that works with us and Flores, but it just hits a lot closer to home that we've been together since day one," Officer Cecil Garcia.
