Ramar Communications has named Matt Ernst its news director, managing the company's news division. FOX34's first news director Jeff Klotzman has announced his retirement.

Ernst has handled various roles over the past 13 years at FOX34, first as radio news anchor, reporter and weather forecaster. He's worked in Lubbock broadcasting for 15 years. Ernst became assistant news director five years ago.

Ramar Communications President Brad Moran said “Matt is the perfect person to lead our newsroom. His passion for Lubbock and work ethic will serve our viewers well."

Ernst has volunteered in the Lubbock Area United Way's Loaned Executive division for several years. This year he is chairing the division. He is also a past president and current board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce recognized Ernst as part of its Twenty Under Forty class in 2016. He completed the Chamber's Leadership Lubbock program in 2017. Ernst is an alumnus of Texas Tech’s Mass Communications College and Mississippi State’s Broadcast Meteorology Program.

Ernst will continue his role as chief meteorologist.
