Former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury has joined the Arizona Cardinals (3-13) as head coach, FOX Sports's Peter Schrager reported Tuesday afternoon.

USC hired Kingsbury in December after Tech fired him at the end of his sixth season; he was hired as the Trojans offensive coordinator, but interest in the NFL circulated as soon as the regular season ended. The Trojans reportedly barred Kingsbury from other interviews after hiring him.

If finalized, Kingsbury will lead a Cardinals squad with the worst record this season. It will have the first pick in the draft. Kingsbury's quarterback -- long known to be his specialty -- would be former first-round pick Josh Rosen, who threw for 2,278 yards and 11 touchdowns in 13 starts during his rookie campaign.
