Three people died and three others were injured in a crash in the eastern Panhandle Thursday morning, when snow was on the Interstate.

According to the DPS, Elizabeth Johanson, 35, of Cleveland, Mississippi was driving an SUV too fast for the snowy conditions on I-40 just east of Shamrock. Johanson lost control of the vehicle, which skidded across the center median and into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was hit by a westbound RV.

Elizabeth Johanson; Adam Johanson, 35 and a 10-year-old girl in the SUV died, according to DPS.

A five-year-old boy and three-year-old girl are in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 12-year-old girl was treated and released.

Two people from Placentia, California in the RV were not hurt.

Shamrock is about 90 miles east of Amarillo.
