Lubbock County Judge Tom Head issued a disaster declaration in the wake of severe weather including flooding in late May. It's the first step in the process for requesting state and federal assistance.

Emergency Management Coordinator Clinton Thetford says damage to county roads totals $2.2 million. He says more than 85 homes within the county have flood damage. So far agriculture-related losses total $210,000.

Judge Head also asked Governor Abbott to include Lubbock county in the state's request for a federal disaster declaration. Assistance for residents, business owners, and governmental entities within the county could be considered.
