Legendary Texas rocker Dusty Hill passed away today at the age of 72. Hill played bass in the Texas blues rock trio ZZ Top for over fifty years. In a statement surviving members Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard, Hill's brother, said, "We, along with the legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, miss your steadfast presence, your good nature, and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom of the 'Top.' We will forever be connected to that 'Blues Shuffle in C. You will be missed greatly amigo."
Joseph Michael "Dusty" Hill was born in Dallas, Texas May 19, 1949, and raised in the Lakewood neighborhood of East Dallas. Hill and his brother Frank Beard played in local Dallas bands the Warlocks, the Cellar Dwellers, and American Blues. In 1969 the brothers relocated to Houston, joining guitarist and vocalist Billy Gibbons to form ZZ Top.
Dusty Hill was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
