LUBBOCK, Texas -

A cat stuck in a tree is not uncommon, but it is scary for any owner.

For 48 hours, Rev was stuck up high up in a tree in Tech Terrace, struggling to get down. Neighbor Marissa Williams heard about the cat through a Facebook post and made an effort to check on it.

"The poor thing was just crying up there and it was so heartbreaking," Williams said.

The narrow alley and power poles made it impossible for Lubbock Fire Rescue to help. Williams decided to call Lane Watkins.

"The very top of the tree is like 45 feet high," Watkins said.

Watkins owns Artisan Trees and Scapes. He said the height and shape of the tree made for a difficult climb, but one he is trained to do. Watkins knew he would not be able to physically grab the cat, so he started to shake a the branch.

"I shook it like a salt shaker," Watkins said.

Rev landed in the neighbors backyard, startled, but safe. For Watkins, it was his first time helping save an animal, but he said if given the opportunity, he would help again.

"I just care about stuff," Watkins said. "I'm not even a cat person, but I just have compassion, so."

Do not try to get a cat or animal out of a tree yourself. Always call a professional or the fire department for help.
