LUBBOCK, Texas -

More than 1,000 runners got a head start on burning the calories with Lubbock's Turkey Trot.

The West Texas Running Club reports a record "trotter" turnout, for the two-mile and 12K courses near the Bayer Museum of Agriculture.

It celebrates fitness, family and fun.

"What a great way to kick off your Thanksgiving Day holiday," race director Terry Dalton said. "And the good thing about it is when you come out and run a little bit before you eat, you're going to eliminate or at least reduce some of that guilt that you're going to have by eating that 3,000 calorie meal later on."

Race organizers say it's also a great opportunity to tour the Bayer Museum, exploring how it preserves agricultural heritage and a living memorial to thousands of producers and pioneers in our area.
