Five vehicle crash near Quaker Avenue, one with serious injuries

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Two men were injured in a crash involving five cars at Quaker Avenue and South Loop 289 around 2:20 p.m. yesterday.

A minivan traveling westbound on the South Loop access road struck a Chevy Impala traveling northbound on Quaker Avenue. The minivan continued through the intersection and struck two vehicles stopped in the southbound lanes of Quaker at a red light. A third vehicle stopped at the light was also struck during the collision.

The driver of the minivan, a 77-year-old male, was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The 89-year-old male driver of a GMC Sierra that was struck while stopped at the red light was also taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.


Lubbock Police Department crash investigators are currently on scene of a multiple vehicle crash at Quaker Avenue and South Loop 289. At this time it appears five vehicles have been involved in the crash and one person has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Southbound lanes of Quaker Avenue just north of the Loop have been shut down due to the crash. Investigators are asking the public to avoid the area.
