LUBBOCK, Texas -

Sammy Miller and The Congregation, led by Juilliard trained Grammy Award-nominated drummer, Sammy Miller, will perform its unique joyful jazz sound for the opening spring performance of the Presidential Lecture & Performance Series.

While independently the band members have  performed and recorded with such notable artists as  Wynton MarsalisLady Gaga and Queen Latifah, and at venues including The White HouseLincoln Center and the Hollywood Bowl, the group has united on a mission to put the generosity back into jazz and bring art back to the people.

The SF Weekly said Sammy Miller and The Congregation performs “feel-good party jazz, harking back to the ‘20s and ‘30s … it’s got the raw, uplifting vibe of a New Orleans street parade.”

Tickets for the performance are $18 and are available through Select-A-Seat at (806) 770-2000 or www.selectaseatlubbock.com. Texas Tech students are eligible to receive one free ticket with a valid student ID at the Student Union Building info desk. There will be a CD signing following the performance.

Tonight will be the coldest for a while

Prepare for a cold one, but thankfully it'll be the chilliest night through the next few weeks. TONIGHT: A few clouds, leading to some clearing skies. Low temperature near 27° near Lubbock. Areas to the north may be in the mid-20s, so you may have to keep your pipes in mind. Winds won't be as breezy, about 10-15 miles out of the north.  SUNDAY: A cold one with a high near 45°. Expect winds out of the north 5-10 mph under mostly sunny skies. Even by Monday, we're back...

Kansas State defeats Texas Tech 21-6

Kansas State won the coin toss and deferred, so the Red Raiders got the ball first. Jett Duffey was 4/5 for 40 yards to get the team into the Wildcat's territory, but they had to settle for a Clayton Hatfield 39-yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead.
